The Mom Gallery is pleased to present “Part of Me Just Wants / All of The Things,” by Bethany Johnson & Cecelia Robertson. Opening Reception Saturday, December 5th, 7-10pm. Beer sponsored by 4th Tap Brewery Cooperative.
In “Part of Me Just Wants / All of the Things,” Bethany Johnson and Cecelia Robertson both share their studied, tender examinations of natural phenomena. Both Bethany and Cecelia’s works evoke thoughts of scientific specimens and data visualizations, and the collection of works connotes a descriptive inventory or archive. Inspired by—but ultimately outside of—the constraints of the literally factual, however, both artists are able to associate freely, make unexpected connections, and propose an alternative, more poetic and intuitive knowledge of nature.
Bethany Johnson is an artist living and working in Austin, Texas. She received her MFA in painting from the University of Texas at Austin in 2011, where she continues to lecture in drawing, digital art, and two-dimensional design. Bethany’s work is represented by Moody Gallery in Houston, Texas; she looks forward to exhibiting her third solo show with the gallery next season. Bethany shows her work nationally, and her work has been featured in the Huffington Post, New American Paintings Blog, and Hyperallergic, among others.
Cecelia Robertson (nee: Phillips) was born and raised in Rochester, NY. After completing a Bachelor's degree in painting from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2005, she moved to Texas and received a Master's in painting from the University of Texas at Austin.
